Convert Picostation M2 to Unifi Easy Way

I am going to show you alot simpler way to convert picostation m2/HP to Unifi the easy way.

The reason why I decided to create this post on here is because I could not find anything easy on google search or Ubnt forums or could not get any help from ubnt without slow delays from the support….. But anyway lets get started here:

First login to your picostation m2 via going to 192.168.1.20 and login with factory defaults of:
username: ubnt
password: ubnt

Then go to system tab.

Check to see what firmware your running if your running: XM.v5.5.10 please down grade it to XMv.5.5.8 via here: http://www.filedropper.com/xmv558209911402051824

After downloading the downgraded firmware you want click on upload then browse to where ever you downloaded the firmware to after you find it then click on upload then give it couple secs then at the top in blue you will see update click on that then it will start the process of downgrading the firmware.

then after that is done power cycle the picostation m2 for about 30secs.

after its all powered back up go back to system tab then you want to download this airostounifi here:http://www.filedropper.com/airos2unifi

after you download that you want to go back into the picostation m2 then go to system tab once again then you want to upload airostounifi to the system after that is done you want to click on update then it will start the process updating the firmware once again.

after that is done you will notice on the 3rd led light on the picostation m2 will have either an solid or flashing amber (dont worry from what this topic said: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Frequently-Asked-Questions/UniFi-How-to-convert-PicoStation-M2-M2HP-to-run-UniFi/ta-p/457143  “If you have a unit with a newer date code, i.e. 1336G, it may get stuck after the above upgrade. Symptoms are typically that the 3rd LED from the top (amber) will flash and it will not show up in DHCP table, by discovery tool or in the controller. ” please dont think your picostation m2 is bricked it is not bricked at all its just telling you that unifi software as been uploaded to picostation m2. also you dont need to do any of this crap “To solve this please flash the firmware.bin file found in unifi_base/dl/firmware/BZ2/version/firmware.bin via TFTP soft recovery. For example, on Linux mine is found here: /usr/lib/unifi/dl/firmware/BZ2/3.1.8.2425/firmware.bin. Adjust the version number depending on the controller version you have installed.” its NOT TRUE I will tell you what I did after airosunifi firmware was updated on rest of my 3 picostations m2 I did.

After the firmware is uploaded (airosunifi) you will loose all access to webgui of the picostation due to the unifi software is now on the picostation m2.

I did rest of this setup on ubuntu desktop
to install putty follow this link: http://www.linuxtechi.com/install-putty-in-ubuntu/ for other linux desktops follow this: http://www.iggyt.org/doku.php?id=wiki:infrastructure_tools:ssh:install-putty-in-linux-centos-rhel
http://www.ihaveapc.com/2011/02/how-to-install-and-use-putty-in-linux-mint/

after you installed putty on your ubuntu or linux machine open it up and type in 192.168.1.20 then you will be asked for username and password and use defaults of ubnt/ubnt once you get logged in it will log you in to busybox/unifi.

then you want to do this command:

# ssh into the device and type
mca-cli
# the CLI interface:
set-inform http://ip-of-controller:8080/inform or domain of http://subdomain.domain:8080/inform

Then after you do that type in reboot then your picostation m2 will reboot then give it 30 secs to boot back up then you want go back to putty and ssh back into the picostation m2 to make sure the command saved when I did this it didnt work first time so I had to do it twice to make it accept. After you did that command twice login to your unifi controller then you should see your picostation m2 waiting to be adopted by your unifi controller after you adopt it will start the update unifi firmware to the latest one from the unifi controller after it updates it will start your provisioning of the picostation m2 to work with the settings that you did inside of unifi controller when you first setup the controller.
